Middle School Variety Show Showcases Wide Range of Talent

The Middle School Variety Show was a smashing hit! An annual tradition since the founding of the Middle School, the Variety Show is an opportunity for Middle Schoolers of all ages to showcase their musical talents on stage in front of family, friends and classmates. This year, the line-up was impressive, featuring 13 performances ranging from a classic Bohemian Rhapsody rendition on piano and vocals, a duet performing the popular pop song Stay by Rihanna, a solo flute performance of Morning Mood by Peer Gynt and Edvard Gynt and more!

The Middle School Variety show has previously been run by Middle School music teacher Madeline Franklin and fifth grade CORE teacher Caroline Boyle, but this year Middle School music teacher Renee Duncan and Prep School music teacher David Soson made their debut as directors. Students prepared for their performances independently for weeks, only with small suggestions from the directors in rehearsals to make sure the program ran smoothly.

“Working with the kids in another capacity [outside of school] is always fun, particularly when you meet some you may not have taught before and discover these hidden talents you never knew they possessed!” Ms. Duncan said.

“I am most proud of the students for their enthusiasm and determination,” Ms. Duncan continued. “While they are nervous and excited backstage, eagerly awaiting their performance, when they take to the stage they are such professionals. They presented performances they not only worked really hard on, but also ones they took time to perfect and can be proud of.”
