Magnus League has completed its 6th year of NYC High School and Junior High School team and individual competition. For the past six years, CGPS has hosted the Sunday morning Magnus League competition. This was the first year the top five games were on a live broadcast CGPS finished in 2nd place behind Berkeley Carroll.  A total of 76 players from across the city participated.

Marc Arnold ’11 spent his entire 13-year K-12 schooling at CGPS. During that time, Marc won numerous City, State, and National individual championships, never missing the National championships, and led our school to team championships as well. Shortly after graduating, Marc was awarded the prestigious international title of Grandmaster, and then joined our team of CGPS coaches at the annual title tournaments. During Marc’s scholastic career and beyond, his parents Mike Arnold and Renee Arnold have been key supporters of the CGPS chess program.

An incredible year for CGPS Chess also saw the School hosting the annual NYS Girls Championship, monthly tournaments and the annual Charity Chess Championship.
